Oh, Scott Westerfeld...

My Love/Hate Relationship With A Series...

How do i loathe/love thee?

Let me count the ways.

Anyway...if you know who Scott Westerfeld is, you will know this post is going to be about his series, Uglies. Go here to learned more if you have no idea what i'm talking about.

I am currently reading the 3rd book, Specials.

AGGGGH!!!
Why?

I would LOVE to have a LONG chat with Mr. Westerfeld.

Here are a few questions i would ask him:

Do you enjoy torturing your characters as much as it seems?

Why did you pick TALLY as the main character!? I didn't like her personality to begin with, and now she's been altered like, three times...she doesn't seem to be IMPROVING.

Also, his plot is rather scary.

Its horrifying to think the world might actually BE like that in the future.

However...its facinating.

I love these books.

I'm slowly reading them all (1 to go after this one!!).

Why? Why do i read them if they bug me so much?

THEY. ARE. SO. WELL. WRITTEN!!!!

And the plot, scary though it may be, is AMAZING.

As an author, these things appeal to me VERY strongly.

However, i still want that long chat with Scott Westerfeld.

More questions i would ask him:

Why did you make Shay go all self-mutilating and scary!? I loved her!

Why did you even put David in the first book if she ditches him for Zane?

Why did you make Dr. Cable SOOOOO scary!?

WHY CAN'T ANYTHING EVER GO RIGHT FOR TALLY!?!?!?

You know, i might just be jealous he thought of it before me.

These books are very eye-opening.

They show what obsession with beauty can do to people.

It shows how very messed up people honestly believe they are doing the right thing....even when they are SERIOUSLY not.

If you need something to read, i would reccomend this series.

It might scare you.

You might hate them more than i do.

But you also might love them more than i do, to.

  1. I have a few things to say on this matter:
I feel the exact same way as you.
I love Zane. He has to be the best part of the two middle books.
The Cutters are scary, but they definately add to the story.
I kinda like how it follows Tally. It keeps it interesting.
    Bubbly. Pwns.
Extras is the best. Trust me.
    Don't read the Midnighters Series.
